McRory Pediatrics celebrates World Down Syndrome Day!

The staff and families of our Encino & Valencia offices enjoyed a morning potluck while wearing lots of fun socks in recognition of the wonderful families and children that we work with.
World Down Syndrome Day, March 21, was established in 2006 by Down Syndrome International with the goal of raising awareness and mobilizing support and recognition of the dignity, rights and well-being of people with Down syndrome across the world. March 21, the 21st day of the third month of the year, was chosen to symbolize the third copy of chromosome 21 present in Trisomy 21, the most common form of Down syndrome.

Employee Spotlight: Delmy Goudy

Congratulations on 5 successful years with McRory Pediatric Services, Inc.

In March, 2010 Delmy joined our therapy team as a behavior therapist. Because of her strong work ethic, clinical skills and numerous compliments from supervisors and parents she was quickly promoted to be a part of our clinical team within our ITS program. Shortly after joining our ITS team she once again soared and was given a classroom supervisory position. Since her time with us, Delmy has continued to advance her clinical skills by going back to school to study applied behavior analysis. Once she completes her BCBA studies, she hopes to join our ABA supervisory team as a case supervisor.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Delmy for a short interview, and here is what we learned from her:

What have you enjoyed most about being part of the McRory team?

"One of the many things I’ve enjoyed most about being a part of the McRory team is the effective collaboration between multiple professional disciplines and the collaboration with the families."

Describe a moment professionally that you are most proud of.

"My proudest moments include modeling for therapists and caregivers a variety of behavioral strategies, then seeing them implement them. It is very rewarding to observe a positive behavior change in a child when the child’s therapeutic team is implementing the same procedures. Another proud moment includes the ability for a child to generalize a skill because many teaching opportunities have been provided to him/her across settings and people."

Free Sibshop Series for Children Ages 8-13 Years

Free Sibshop Series for Children Ages 8-13 Years

McRory Pediatrics is holding its first Sibshop Series to celebrate the many contributions of sisters and brothers who have a sibling with special needs. The group will begin March 19th at 4pm - 5:30pm and run for 6 consecutive weeks at our Encino location. The group is designed for children 8 - 13 yrs old. We ask for a one time fee of $20 to help with the cost of materials upon starting while the rest of the series is entirely free.

The goal of our Sibshop is to provide participants with some unique opportunities:

A place to meet other siblings

To share common joys and concerns

To learn how others handle situations commonly experienced by those with special needs

To learn more about the implications of their sibling’s special needs

Allow parents to learn more about the concerns and opportunities frequently experienced by siblings
